History of Networks Simply, the "G" stands for "GENERATION". The previous generations of mobile networks are 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G. 1G Full form - First generation Year of Inception - 1980s Feature - 1G delivered analog voice. Bandwidth - 2kbps 2G Full form - Second generation Year of Inception - Early 1990s Features: 2G introduced digital voice (e.g. CDMA- Code Division Multiple Access).
