History of Networks Simply, the "G" stands for "GENERATION". The previous generations of mobile networks are 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G. 1G Full form - First generation Year of Inception - 1980s Feature - 1G delivered analog voice. Bandwidth - 2kbps 2G Full form - Second generation Year of Inception - Early 1990s Features: 2G introduced digital voice (e.g. CDMA- Code Division Multiple Access). Bandwidth - 14kbps to 64kbps 3G Full form - Third generation Year of Inception - Early 2000s Features - 3G brought mobile data (e.g. CDMA2000). Bandwidth - 2Mbps 4G/4G LTE Full form - Forth generation Year of Inception - 2010s: Features - 4G LTE ushered in the era of mobile broadband.
