The rollout of 5G telecommunication services in Malaysia has been fraught with controversy.
Ericsson and Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) have agreed to a 10-year cooperation to build a statewide 5G wholesale network for Malaysia.
Ericsson will supply end-to-end 5G services, including core, RAN, and transport, as well as operations and business support systems (OSS/BSS) and managed services.
DNB is certain that it will reach 500 5G-enabled facilities this year. The network is expected to have 10,167 locations when 5G coverage reaches more than 90% of the country.
Other important benefits of the 5g network, in addition to the long-term GDP and job opportunities, include:
- More than 1,000 jobs will be created to assist the deployment of the 5G network.
- Increasing domestic vendor participation by enlisting them in the provision of various NEP-related services.
- To exhibit 5G use cases and accelerate the growth of digital start-ups, a 5G Experiential Centre and Innovation Lab is being developed.
According to Digital Nasional Berhard, oil and gas, ports, tourism, education, healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, retail, and electricity and utilities are among the major industries that could gain from the early adoption of 5G.
